what is medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program created for individuals age 65 and older, as well as certain younger people with medical conditions or disabilities. This program is divided into various parts, and it’s important to learn how these fit together.

MEDICARE PART A

Part A is truly a cornerstone of your hospital care, covering the costs of inpatient stays, skilled nursing facilities, hospice, and home health services. It guarantees you a cozy semi-private room during your hospital stay. Just keep in mind that outpatient surgeries and some treatments are covered under Part B.

The exciting news? Most people turning 65 get Part A completely premium-free, thanks to the taxes you've contributed throughout your career! You might even qualify based on a spouse's or ex-spouse's work history. And if you don't, there are still options available. So, embrace Part A for your healthcare and enjoy a worry-free journey towards better health!

MEDICARE PART B

Part B is essential for outpatient medical coverage, covering most services outside hospital stays. It covers vital doctor visits, lab tests, preventive care, ambulance rides, and outpatient surgeries. It's especially important for covering the costs of cancer treatments and kidney dialysis.

Social Security sets the cost of Part B and may vary yearly. Individuals with higher incomes may pay more based on their modified adjusted gross income.

Having Part B provides peace of mind about your medical care!

MEDICARE PART C

Part C, or the Medicare Advantage Program, offers fantastic private insurance options designed just for you! Costs may vary by carrier, county, and plan you select, so you have plenty of options to fit your needs. Before diving into Advantage plans, make sure you're enrolled in Medicare Parts A and B. Even if a plan features an attractive low premium, don't forget to consider the Part B costs. It's also important to stay within the plan's service area and to apply during the enrollment period. Once you're enrolled, you'll experience a personalized approach to managing your Medicare benefits. Choosing Part C is entirely optional—many people find Original Medicare with Medigap to be a better fit. Remember, your healthcare needs are unique, so explore your options and find the perfect match for you!

MEDICARE PART D

Part D is an important addition to our national health insurance program for those aged 65 and older. Before 2006, Medicare didn't cover prescription medications, but Part D now provides crucial coverage for outpatient drugs.

With Part D, you can conveniently access prescription medications through local pharmacies or mail order. You can choose from around 30 drug plans available in most states. I recommend having your agent conduct a Part D analysis using Medicare's prescription drug finder tool to help you find the best plan for your needs. Let’s work together towards better health!

Before choosing a plan, we want to be sure you know the difference between your options. In particular, how Medicare Supplements and Medicare Advantage Plans differ. Many people sign up for Advantage Plans thinking they are Supplements unfortunately, they are not.

MEDICARE ADVANTAGE PLAN

Medicare Advantage plans are fantastic private options that combine Parts A and B, often including prescription drug coverage all in one! Many of these plans go above and beyond by adding extras like dental, vision, hearing care, gym memberships, and even allowances for over-the-counter items. We take the extra step to verify your preferred doctors and hospitals in your service area, ensuring a smooth experience!

MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT PLAN

Medicare Supplement plans, or Medigap, are fantastic options that enhance your Medicare coverage by helping with deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. With a Medigap policy, you’ll have the freedom to visit any Medicare-accepting provider across the country—perfect for your travels! At JLG Insurance Services, we’re dedicated to finding the best options tailored to your budget and healthcare needs. Let's explore the possibilities together!
